Our foundation for change

Happy fall! As summer comes to a close, I am thinking about which nonprofits I am considering for year-end gifts. This year more than ever, with a pandemic still in full swing and racial uprisings happening all over the world, I want to make sure that my financial support will allow me to live my values and help me make a difference. Will I be giving back to Environmental Initiative this fall, you may ask? The answer is an enthusiastic “YES!!” Why do I respond with all caps and two exclamation points? Because we at Environmental Initiative have been going through a transformational change these past few years to become the organization we have always aspired to be.

We are working toward:

• Making sure those who are silenced and marginalized by environmental injustices are given a seat at the table and a voice in decision-making on environmental issues;
• Allowing staff time to process everything that has been happening in the world and to think about what they can do to bring about change;
• Inviting others along with us to see and be the change that our world needs today.

I realize these are big aspirations, and I realize each of us still has a lot of work to do within the organizational and within the environmental community, but we need change and we are ready to change.

If you want to continue to see change happen and be a part of that change, consider being a financial supporter today. Any amount given between now and the end of the year will be doubled with a dollar-for-dollar match up to $20,000 by current and past board of directors.
