Repair process guide

Project Clean Air Repair (CAR) assists income-qualified Minnesotans with free vehicle emissions control repairs.

Your car may have a faulty emissions system if you observe any of the following:

  • Check engine light.
  • Low engine power.
  • Misfiring.
  • Odor, like rotten eggs.
  • Knocking, pinging, or rattling sounds.

If you suspect your car needs a repair, call one of our participating partner garages to arrange an inspection. Garage staff will confirm your eligibility and perform the emission system repairs at no cost to you. Environmental Initiative will be invoiced directly for the work.
