For me, Environmental Initiative’s mission is both personally and professional important. Our values, focus on people, and commitment to equity means that my work at EI isn’t just a day job, but a work of passion.
I grew up romping through the woods, climbing trees, and catching fireflies in a small town in rural Michigan. From early-morning fishing, afternoon swims, or gazing up at Saturn through the telescope, I’ve always felt a deep connection to the world around me. For the last 15 years, I have spent my career organizing people to engage with and influence the systems that shape their lives. Using a relationship-based approach that emphasizes the discovery of mutual self-interest, I have seen the power and possibility that results when people come together to build a more just, equitable world.
As a self-identified nonprofit rabble rouser, my role as Director of Organizational Development gives me the opportunity to help shape EI’s culture, structures, and growth to increase our impact, and ultimately achieve our mission. I find joy in bringing order to chaos, translating strategy into concrete action, and supporting my fellow staff members to get what they need.
