My name is Bridget Rathsack and I am the new Program Manager for the Minnesota Sustainable Growth Coalition. I am excited to join the team here at Environmental Initiative!
I was inspired to join Environmental Initiative because of the amazing people, the credibility the organization has with the community and the organization’s compelling focus on building partnerships to advance sustainability, particularly with the work of the Minnesota Sustainable Growth Coalition. I am excited to bring my previous experiences managing projects, driving outcomes and collaborating across different areas of expertise.
A little more about me…Since college, sustainability and environmental stewardship have been a passion of mine, particularly from a policy perspective and finding solutions that can benefit society. That led to my major in political science and minors in sustainability studies and European area studies at the University of Minnesota. While in school, I interned at the Metropolitan Council, researching funding for the (then-proposed, now realized) Green Line light rail expansion. I worked in the University’s Sustainability Office as the first Sustainability Assistant, helping complete the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System assessment, research for and draft the Climate Action Plan and coordinate campus events.
For the past five years, I have worked as a Global Consumer Insights Associate at General Mills. I worked with teams to keep the consumer first in our decisions, specifically managing consumer research for innovation on snacking brands (such as Nature Valley and Larabar). I also worked with the sales organization in a shopper insights role, understanding the needs of the Walmart and Sam’s Club shoppers and translating that into business recommendations and implications. Throughout the journey, I learned the importance of truly knowing what problem you are solving, for whom you’re solving it and how to understand and build empathy for those people — which is something I hope to continue bringing to my work at Environmental Initiative.
In my free time, I am proud to chair the St. Louis Park Environment and Sustainability Commission and be a part of implementing our ambitious Climate Action Plan and broader sustainability goals. I also enjoy traveling (recent trips include Italy, North Carolina and Costa Rica!), biking, kayaking and exploring festivals and events in Minneapolis. I also enjoy volunteering with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Junior Achievement.
I am excited to jump into the work here at Environmental Initiative and with the Coalition. I look forward to meeting all of you and working to build a more sustainable future for all! Please feel free to reach me at email@example.com or at (612)334-3388 ext. 8111.
