While 2020 was a difficult year, it was not without its successes. Environmental Initiative’s launch of Project Clean Air Repair (a.k.a. Project CAR) last year builds on its legacy of bringing people and organizations together to address our common challenges and improve the environment. Project CAR helps clean up some of the most polluting cars on Minnesota roads through partnerships with local auto repair shops.
An estimated 25 percent of passenger vehicles cause 90 percent of air pollution because many older vehicles have outdated emission controls and exhaust equipment. Project CAR reimburses partner garages for identifying and fixing vehicle exhaust systems in cars of lower-income residents. Poor air quality disproportionately affects people living in poverty. This work is a win-win-win for the garages performing repairs, vehicle owners and the communities where they live and work.

This effort has been years in the making following a successful pilot project in 2017 and as the founding sponsor, Flint Hills Resources is excited to see its reach broaden throughout the state.
Thank you, Environmental Initiative, for your partnership in developing creative solutions that improve our environment and our communities.
