Barr Engineering Co. is honored to be featured as Environmental Initiative’s member of the month. We are an employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with nine offices across North America and over 750 employees. Our company was incorporated over 50 years ago in Minnesota and we are headquartered here. Our employees have worked with Environmental Initiative since its earliest days.

Like Environmental Initiative, Barr’s mission is about solving the complex environmental problems of our clients. Also like Environmental Initiative, we build partnerships—with clients, other organizations, and public stakeholders—to accomplish those goals. In our company’s strategic plan we identify collaborative consulting as one of our core values, embodying our approach to our work. As consultants, rather than just practitioners of a technical or professional discipline, we believe we must work together to be successful in the long run.

As problem solvers, we know that solving problems is a team sport—we can accomplish more for everyone when we work collaboratively. When we collaborate to share knowledge and skills, we maximize our value to clients and our overall consulting opportunities. Collaboration has been critical to our success on projects for decades. As the world becomes more complex and our clients more sophisticated, we know we need to increase our emphasis on teamwork, integration, and cooperation.

We believe that working in teams—with clients, partners, organizations like Environmental Initiative, and others—to solve problems collectively provides the best solutions. Tapping into a diversity of skills, backgrounds, and experiences can generate unique perspectives and creative results. As team members, we can play to each other’s strengths and so perform at levels above those of individual organizations.

As a collaborative and “resourceful” company, Barr strives to foster a culture of creativity and innovation, in which all of us look for better ways to solve tough problems—just as Environmental Initiative does in fostering a spirit of collaboration among its member firms.
