WHAT WE DO: DIALOGUE TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS

Environmental issues are complex, multifaceted and they impact all of us. Individuals, communities, industry, government and nonprofit advocates all have a vested interest in the use and protection of our natural resources.

Why Collaborate?

Environmental Initiative convenes and facilitates conversations to achieve policy solutions for environmental and economic progress. By bringing together leaders from business, nonprofits and government to work in partnership, key players can collectively see barriers and identify ways to solve a problem, better together than alone.

How We Work

As a neutral convener and facilitator on environmental issues, we strive for a balance of voices and equal power among dialogue project participants. Dialogue projects at Environmental Initiative typically have:

  • A tangible goal, or outcome
  • Well understood drivers providing incentive for project participants to strive for a solution
  • Clearly established ground rules, agreed upon by project participants
  • Transparency
  • Opportunities for group learning
  • Experienced facilitators

Successes

Environmental Initiative has developed considerable expertise in managing and facilitating a variety of dialogue projects on a range of environmental issues. In partnership with Minnesota environmental leaders from business, nonprofits and government, Environmental Initiative:

  • Created the policy foundations of the Clean Water Legacy Act, legislation that aims to clean up state’s lakes, rivers and streams
  • Developed a plan to reduce 47.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2025 from the solid waste sector in Duluth, Rochester, Saint Cloud and the Twin Cities region
  • Identified barriers and strategies to overcoming them in order for Minnesota to meet mandated energy efficiency savings goals.
