Renewables Purchasing: Corporate leadership through clean energy

The train has left the station on renewable energy— it’s now necessary for businesses that want to stay competitive. Most organizations already have renewable energy purchasing goals, but aggregated, corporate procurement is the next generation of purchasing. The Minnesota Sustainable Growth Coalition (MNSGC) is on the cutting edge of this trend.

This day-long event will focus on the renewable energy procurement options available in Minnesota,
both aggregated and individual. Attendees will not only learn about how to further their individual clean energy goals, but will also have the opportunity to shape a unique, aggregate way to procure renewables in conjunction with MNSGC member utilities. The goal is to identify what options Coalition member companies may want to pursue that the Coalition can support.

Through facilitated conversations, participants and organizations will:

•  Explore all the options available to Minnesota companies to procure renewable energy in the
state of Minnesota (utility and non-utility)
•  Provide feedback on utilities’ renewable energy purchasing options and identify ways to improve future offerings
•  Identify which procurement options attendees want to pursue beyond this event, and have the opportunity to further engage, act on, and/or develop those options

•  Mark Porter— Business Renewables Center Manager, Rocky Mountain Institute
•  Letha Tawney— Director of Utility Innovation and Polsky Chair for Renewable Energy, World Resources Institute

•  Primary contacts of Minnesota Sustainable Growth Coalition member businesses
•  Within member organizations, finance, procurement, and other departments involved with making renewable energy purchasing decisions
•  Non-members who are interested in exploring all of the options available to purchase renewable energy, either individually or in an aggregated way
